The drone era has just begun. Everyday new breakthroughs in technology are achieved by companies investing in this new worldwide market. From time to time some great innovations come to us from very affordable products.
MJX X101C : Good, bad, bottom line
- Design - 8/108/10
- Battery Life - 8/108/10
- Features - 8/108/10
- Ease of use - 8/108/10
THE GOOD : X101C aka Hawkeye-III is currently your only option for a low-cost 3D VR drone flight experience. Worry not, it is the only option but a good option. X101C has a decent control range, good flight time from its lipo battery. Camera is decent quality even if only 1MP. Easy to control, smooth hover, good for beginners too. Features work as they supposed to and they are easy to access from the RC controller. FPV has very very low latency, FPV fans will be happy with it.
THE BAD : Camera could be a bit better quality and it would be good if the 3D VR Headset came in the package, unfortunately it has to be bought separately.
BOTTOM LINE : Overall it’s a good quadcopter at an affordable price which allows new drone enthusiasts to experience Virtual Reality at a more affordable price. Aside from the VR the drone itself is very reliable, a good flyer, fit for beginners and experts, camera is only 1MP, it would be great to have had a 3MP camera but considering its price.

What’s so special with MJX X101C?
MJX X101C (also known as Hawkeye-III) is one of these great examples, so today we’re here for MJX X101C review. It combines two recent world technologies which are stunning the crowds: drones and Virtual Reality. Yes! If you are a VR fan I’m happy to inform you MJX X101C FPV camera is compatible with a VR headset. It allows the pilot to watch on the goggles what the camera is recording in real time. This used to be a feature of high-priced drones, especially on FPV racing drones. MJX however has decided to invest on a drone compatible with 3D VR headset to allow all drone enthusiasts to experience VR FPV at the most affordable price possible.
Most beginners look for a Toy grade drone to learn and practice before they move on to a higher-priced product. This is something we at DronesGlobe support. Firstly because there already are great drones at very low prices capable of great performance. Allowing beginners to truly feel how quadcopters are controlled and practice to perfection. Secondly because you don’t want a high-price drone to be the first drone you control. It is better to start with something which will be less costly to fix and repair if needed. This being said if you are seeking for VR FPV experience but you don’t want to risk on an expensive drone MJX X101C is the one (and probably the only option at the moment).
FPV Camera works great
MJX X101C transmits FPV (First Person View) video through WiFi directly to your Android or iOS device. The FPV camera included in the package is 1MP and records at 720p resolution. Unlike other low-cost FPV drones, X101C does not rely on the mobile device for both FPV and RC control. X101C comes with its own GR-246 2.4GHz frequency RC remote. Built in ABS plastic, light, simple to use and provides a control distance around 100 meters. It uses 3 AA batteries not included with the original package. The RC remote also has a phone holder for you to place your mobile phone when doing FPV (real time video transmission) FPV flight. X101C is a decent FPV product for a quadcopter within this price range.
About 10 minutes of flight time
X101C (or Hawkeye-III) is powered by a 7.4V 1200mAh Lithium Battery capable of providing up to 10 minutes of flight time depending on camera usage. It takes around 150 minutes for the battery to completely recharge. Charger is not USB. The 8 to 10 minute flight time is within average for same price quadcopters. Hawkeye-III includes two now somewhat common features, the Headless Mode for easier orientation (when you turn your drone 90 degrees to the left, it will go forward when you push the rudder forward (on a non-headless mode drone, it would make the drone turn left).) It also features One-Key Return (drone comes back to pilot). Two useful and fun features. Headless will make it easier for beginners to control the drone for the first time and One-Key Return will make sure it returns to you safely. Besides this useful features, X101C also has the usual 360º aerial stunt with just the press of a button. Fun to use and it will stun the crowds at the local park!
Unfortunately the package does not include its own VR Headset, pilot has to provide its own or buy one separately. Once you have one go to your Google Store or Apple App store and download MJX FPV APP. Within this app you will find all you need for FPV flight and the compatibleness with VR Headsets.
