These new Syma models focus on one of the latest amazing features to be added on low-cost Toy Grade drones, the Altitude Holder also known as Barometer Set Height. This very useful feature used to be restricted to higher-budget drones. However some RC Toy Grade companies such as Syma and JJRC have started to introduce it on low-cost products. This just comes to show how quickly the drone industry is developing as new Toy drones gain more advanced features while maintaining the same affordable price. We will explain this feature further on. For now let’s discuss Syma X5HW WiFi FPV (First Person View) capabilities.
X5HW is upgraded version of X5SW?
If X5HC was the new version of the affordable Syma camera drone X5C, than Syma X5HW is the upgraded version of the also widely sold X5SW Wifi FPV drone. One of the most sought camera features in drones has definitely been the real time video transmission. The idea of watching in real time whatever your drone is seeing amazes many enthusiasts. With reason to be! This is the XXI century, and the era of drones has just begun. While the industry gives its first steps into the commercial market, many are looking for an affordable and easy to control drone for both learning and practicing. This is why Syma is so popular, for a very low price you can buy a drone aimed at beginners and children. If you are a fan of FPV but you are on a low budget, you will be happy with Syma X5HW. It features a 2MP camera (for photos), 1MP for (video). Syma saves buyers some money by making use of their smartphone has a FPV screen. By connecting via WiFi through a free application available for both Android and iOS. Live video transmission is done in decent quality with almost no delay and just a slight of ‘jello effect’ (depends on obstacles of transmission). Syma X5HW RC controller comes with a nice extra for FPV flight. It includes a phone holder for you to place your smartphone.
Many features. Good value for the money!
Now let’s move on to talk about what makes Syma X5HW stand out from the rest: Altitude Holder. Also known as Barometer Set Height, it is a great feature for photography and videography. Syma X5HW has a sensitive barometric pressure sensor (barometer) to measure air pressure and keep the drone locked at that height, hovering autonomously, without much pilot’s input. This allows pilot can focus on recording the video or taking photos while Syma X5HW hovers steadily. Currently, you won’t find this feature available in a cheaper quadcopter. Definitely a good innovation to all camera lovers with a low budget to invest on a drone. Besides this awesome feature Syma X5HW also includes more common features such as Headless Mode for easier orientation despite where drone’s front is pointing at. Other features are the LED lights for night flights and 360º aerial stunts with just the push of a button. A good set of features considering the low price of this Toy drone. And I assure you Altitude Holder will be very fun and useful to use.
Control distance and flight time
Although the great feature, Syma X5HW also has some negative aspects which have always been Syma’s biggest weakness. I’m talking about control distance and flight time. Even though these Syma series is very recent it fails to compete on range and flight time when compared to other same price quadcopters (mainly JJRC products). Powered by a 3.7V 600mAh Lipo Battery Syma X5HW only has a flight time between 5 to 7 minutes, and if you are performing a First Person View flight while recording video at the same time battery time will decrease considerably. The 2.4 Ghz simple control remote only has a controlling range of 30 to 50 meters (in very good flight conditions it may reach 60 or even 70, however do not expect it do it often). 30 to 50 meters is very below the average control range (100 meters) of quadcopters within this price range. If Syma is capable of producing easy to control drones with innovative features at a very affordable price, it does however fail considerably in these two aspects. Let’s hope next models show improvements in these characteristics.
X5HW is great for…
Syma X5HW is particularly aimed at beginners and children. Very easy to control, at a very affordable price (especially though our Amazon links), replacement parts are very easy to find. Makes a great gift for children and a great quadcopter for learning and practicing. FPV and Altitude Holder are two great features which will surely provide many hours of fun to anyone giving the first steps in this new technology. Although some characteristics are below average the public to which this affordable quadcopter is aimed will surely find its features and specifications enough and fun.
