How big are drones?

Drones come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. There’s not a one size fits all kind of a deal here. When it comes to drones, it all depends on the type of drones we’re talking about, and the use case scenarios. You can find anything from pocket-sized drones, miniature drones, and kid-friendly toy drones, all the way to massive industrial models, surveillance drones, and military sUAVs.

The drone market is as diverse as they come – that’s a fact!

Today, though, we are going to focus on large drones with cameras! We’re focusing on the beasts themselves – big drones for sale that you can get your hands on in a matter of days. We’re talking both prosumer and consumer drones here. The list is divided into two sections, depending on the primary customers. That said, we’ll cover large drones with cameras meant for beginners and drone enthusiasts, as well as massive camera drones meant primarily for commercial/industrial scenarios.

With that said, here’s a closer look at the full list of large drones you can buy right now:

Large Drones with Cameras for Beginners

Let’s start things slowly, with a few cheaper models that are pretty big and carry hefty cameras. They offer excellent midair stability, can battle against the wind, and don’t cost a pretty penny. Here’s a closer look at the top five big drones for sale:

5. Potensic D58

We’re going to start this list off and end it with Potensic’s model. First up, we have the D58, an affordable bugger that aims to take the lower end of the market by storm! Can it handle the heat coming from a ton of similarly priced models? Let’s take a closer look and try to find out!

Solid Numbers

Let’s start off with the fun stuff – the specifications! Potensic D58 plays a fun game here, bringing forth solid numbers across the board. They are nothing to write home about, but still just enough to make the D58 viable at this price point. We’re talking 15ish minutes of flight time and 300ish feet (100 meters) of the operating range.

Mediocre Camera

This thing sports a solid full HD camera with a simplistic (some would call it primitive) anti-vibration mechanism. You will still notice vibrations; they just might not be as dominant as they would without it. Still, solid all-around footage, worthy of the price tag, that’s for sure! I almost forgot – you can control the camera’s tilt with one push of a button on the remote controller. It swivels 90 degrees vertically, front to bottom, allowing you a bit of extra control.

Another awesome thing about Potensic D58 is the fact that it comes with two batteries. That means you get double the flight time, which then equals to roughly half an hour of flight time. Now for the biggest downside – D58 lacks brushless motors. These brushed ones aren’t all that good and many users reported they had burned out pretty quickly. Overall, though, the D58 is a mediocre-at-best XL-size drone that won’t make too big of a dent in your budget.

4DRC-M1-drone_web

4. 4DRC M1

Here we have a pretty hefty model that resembles much pricier DJI Inspire Models. M1 is the name, as simple as they come, and it’s made by 4DRC. You probably haven’t heard about it yet, but now is about time you do! So, drop everything that you’re doing and feast your eyes upon a great Inspire-lookalike for roughly $200.

Foldable Bugger

This is the first foldable drone featured on our list of the greatest large drones with cameras. Its propeller arms can quickly fold inward, allowing 4DRC M1 to fit snuggly into a wide assortment of carrying cases. Camera-wise, what’s marketed as a 4K sensor looks a lot more like an artificially upscaled 1080p footage. You can swivel the camera by 90 degrees, but it doesn’t make the resolution any crispier. Still, for roughly $200, it’s definitely worth it!

Advanced Functions

Believe it or not, this thing has advanced functions (features) such as GPS, 5Ghz FPV and return to home. On top of that, there’s also intelligent aerial following mode. It’s not the most accurate piece of software out there, but it does the job more often than not. Just don’t make any rash movement and you’ll be fine!

As for the stats, we’re talking close to a mile of operating range (the camera feed cuts off much earlier, though), nicely coupled with 20 to 25 minutes of battery duration. Yep, the ads claim 30 minutes, but that’s something you won’t be able to achieve with standard flying.

3. Contixo F20

Next up, we have Contixo F20! If you’re a fan of aggressive drone designs, then you’ll definitely love Contixo F20’s appearance. It’s stylish, aggressive, and packs quite the punch with its black and green color combination and bug-like eyes in the front. It performs great too, posing as a solid aerial platform even though it’s a bit on the smaller side of the table.

Affordable Price Tag

This foldable flyer costs just as much as the two above-featured models. Roughly $200 is what you’ll have to splash out for Contixo F20, which is in line with what it brings to the table. Taking of bringing stuff to the table, the F20 by Contixo is equipped with a meh-at-best full HD camera. It’s basically the same thing as 4DRC M1 and Potensic D58, a hot jello mess in terms of footage, and somewhat solid still images, courtesy of the 90-degree vertical rotation.

Safety-features-wise, Contixo F20 brags with 5Ghz WiFi FPV, one-key takeoff/landing, and automatic altitude hold. There’s a handful of camera-based ones too, including stuff like point of interest, follow me and custom flight path. On top of that, it also has brushless motors that do a great deal in terms of overall reliability. Numbers are solid too – roughly 1000 feet of FPV/control range, and 15ish minutes of flight time. Not too bad for a drone as small as this one!

Great Flight Characteristics

Contixo F20 might not have the best camera out there; it might not be the fastest drone on this list, nor the one packing the greatest punch in terms of features… but what it does great (at this price point) is fly. Yep – it might seem absurd, but Contixo F20 is a ridiculously responsive model. It’s quick to react and can maneuver well, almost like some much pricier models.

2. Holy Stone HS700D

The HS700D is the second-best model on this list. As the heading implies, we’re talking about a Holy Stone model here, one that’s been doing itself a ton of justice ever since it set foot onto the market. It’s big, hefty, stable, and possesses a price tag that won’t leave you broke. All in all, it’s an excellent low/mid-end drone worth every penny!

Potent Motors

Let’s start off with the motors. Luckily, the folks over at Holy Stone didn’t cheap out on this model. They implemented powerful, oversized brushless motors that won’t just last much longer than their brushed counterparts, but are capable of providing superior power draw and efficiency.

In terms of the main specs, HS700D can achieve up to 20 minutes of flight time and fly as far as 0.6 to 0.7 miles. While that is more than your average backyard flyer, there are similarly priced models that go for slightly more than that. It’s not an issue, though, just a heads up for everything who wants a long-range drone that can go on all sorts of scouting missions.

Excellent and Versatile Performance

Last but not least, let’s talk about the general flight characteristics of this little bugger! With its massive size and potent motors, Holy Stone HS700D is able to glide through the air seemingly effortlessly. It flies smooth, maneuvers well, and has an added set of reliability features that make it a safe-to-fly mid-range model.

On top of that, it comes with a well-versed camera capable of capturing 2K (slightly wider full HD) footage, live FPV up to 0.5 miles, and vertically rotatable camera up to 90 degrees. It’s not the greatest sensor out there, but it does its job well for the price tag this bugger goes for.

Big Drones For Sale

1. Potensic D85

Potensic D85 is arguably the best large drone with camera that goes for relatively cheap. Yep, we’re talking about an enthusiast-grade model here, one that won’t sweep you off your feet with its superb performance, but one that’s still capable of providing you with a lot of fun and decent aerial footage. Let’s take a closer look!

Great Specs

When it comes to the specifications, you’ll definitely love what you see with the Potensic D85! Thanks to its sophisticated transmission system, it can reach up to a mile (let’s say 0.8 miles max) without losing the signal. As for the 5Ghz WiFi FPV (yep, it’s supported), we’re talking less than half a mile. Don’t get me wrong, that’s still pretty good for a 5Ghz transmitter at this price point.

Good Anti-Vibration Mechanism

Just like all other drones featured earlier, Potensic D85 also packs a solid punch in the camera department. We’re looking at a 2K module here (slightly wider full HD), that captures excellent image quality and solid anti-vibration. You’ll still notice some jello here and there, but it’s not as dominant as is the case with other similarly priced models.

It takes no prisoners with its marvelous set of features, which is always a massive plus. We’re talking 5Ghz FPV, excellent live video clarity, as well as GPS, follow me an orbit flight modes. Potensic D85 is a solid purchase, mark my words!

Large Drones with Cameras for Professionals

Next up, we have three top-tier models that can definitely go toe to toe with commercial solutions. Two of these models are foldable and don’t look absolutely monstrous. However, they are quite powerful, offer superb stability and can tackle any sort of wind that tries to get between them and their mission. They’re a pricey bunch, though, which is why they’re typically purchased by businesses.

3. Autel Robotics EVO

Autel Robotics EVO with Transmitter

Autel Robotics became popular with their X-Star and X-Star Premium models. They shook the high-end drone market with their Phantom-like features and hardware that could go toe to toe with DJI’s finest at any day. EVO came in on the wave of X-Star Premium’s success, and targeted DJI Mavic Pro’s dominance in the foldable department. The new EVO 2 lineup has been released as well, but today we’ll be focusing on the original Autel Robotics EVO.

Gotta Love the Design

If there’s a unique aspect about AR EVO, it’s definitely the bright orange canopy that sets it apart from all other drones. That was the unique thing about its predecessor, X-Star Premium; and the new lineup of EVO 2 drones also sports it. You just gotta love the courage…

But courage alone won’t win over demanding drone buyers. It takes much more than that. Luckily, EVO sports several aces up its sleeves, first of which is a brilliant 4K camera that’s on par with what DJI Mavic 2 Pro has to offer. There’s also a solid set of features too, including advanced tech such as obstacle avoidance, object tracking and so forth.

Top of the Line Specs

Specs-wise, Autel Robotics EVO can go head to head with the best of them! We’re talking roughly 30 minutes of flight time (25ish with standard usage) and 4 miles of operating range. Yep, both numbers are roughly the same as what you can expect with the bottom two models, DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 and DJI Mavic 2 Pro. That’s equivalent to the high-end standard that’s currently taking hold of the drone market.

2. DJI Mavic 2 Pro

dji-mavic-2-pro-with-transmitter

DJI Mavic and Autel Robotics EVO are the smallest drones on this list. They weight quite a bit for their size, but they’re incredibly small. Both are foldable too, which just adds another layer of portability to the mix. Just like its orange competitor (and a direct one, mind you), DJI Mavic 2 Pro delivers professional-ish performance and camera qualities, to awe consumers, prosumers, and professionals alike. With those words in mind, let’s take a closer look at DJI’s best foldable model!

Foldable Brilliance

DJI Mavic 2 Pro is a foldable masterpiece, just like the original Mavic Pro was back in its prime. It’s equipped with state-of-the-art technology and an equivalent set of features, upping its overall versatility and allowing it to be a viable aerial photography solution across numerous industries.

DJI Mavic 2 Pro relies heavily on its 1-inch Hasselblad camera that captures absolutely brilliant aerial footage. We’re talking pro-level footage here, almost at the level of commercial models, mind you! The footage is captured in 4K, and is smooth as butter itself. Combine that with a plethora of smart opportunities and you’ll realize the gist of DJI Mavic 2 Pro’s awesomeness.

Omnidirectional Obstacle Sensing

Among the aforementioned smart set of features is the bleeding edge omnidirectional obstacle sensing. It helps DJI Mavic 2 Pro handle better in the air, effectively avoiding the majority of obstacles that get in its way. This feature is to be used with caution, though, as it’s not perfect…

The features aren’t the only thing that’s spectacular about the Mavic 2 Pro or its Zoom brother. Their specifications aren’t to be taken for granted either! They paint the full picture here, with 4 miles of operating range and 25ish minutes of operating time. Yes, it’s marketed for 30 minutes, but you’re looking at less than that if you’re actually going to fly the drone and capture 4K footage at the same time.

1. DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2.0

dji-phantom-4-pro-with-transmitter_new

The final drone we’re going to address here is DJI Phantom 4. More precisely, DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2.0, the ultimate Phantom machine that’s well worthy of going head to head with all other current-gen (and some next-gen) models. This all-white behemoth is a proper sight to see, but its performance is what sets it apart from others. That said, let’s take a closer look and see what this bad boy is all about!

DJI-Like Excellence

DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 is an incremental upgrade over the original P4Pro, but a radical one when looking back at the Phantom 3 Pro. DJI does what DJI does best, and that’s equipping their drones with the latest and greatest tech. This time around, we’re talking about new object avoidance technology that makes this bugger one of the safest and most reliable models in its class. On top of that, DJI also implemented a set of feature improvements. They might not be obvious at the very first glance, but they are there and they’re making the DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 that much better!

The numbers are absolutely sick – bringing forth 4+ miles of operating range and roughly 20 to 25 minutes of battery life. Both numbers depend on a variety of factors, so your mileage (quite literally) may vary.

Marvelous Camera

When talking about the camera, we need to mention the rock-solid 4K footage. It’s buttery, crispy, and crystal clear – even adding extra flair to the mixture with a set of awesome features. The provided gimbal is able to keep things steady even during stronger winds or when the drone suddenly changes directions. Yep, those traits are courtesy of DJI Phantom 4’s size and state of the art hardware.

What are the Benefits of Larger Drones with Cameras?

alta-x-pat-weir_web

How big are drones?

When talking about cheaper models, you won’t find any massive upsides of larger drones over their smaller counterparts. It’s all, more or less, the same thing. The only differences are in the main specs (flight time and operating range), as well as software+sensors stuff like object tracking, GPS, and autonomous flight modes, and similar.

When talking about more expensive models, having a larger drone can make or break missions in stronger winds. Additionally, larger drones tend to have better stability and increased flight times (that sounds weird, but it’s true), not to mention their ability to carry more weight. You can check out the top-tier heavy lifting drones here.

Should You Buy Large Drones With Cameras?

That depends on your needs. If you’re in need of a drone that can achieve greater LoS (due to government regulations), and potentially carry more weight and superior camera gear, then the answer is a resounding yes. If, however, you’re just looking for a causal drone that you can play around within your backyard, then larger size really makes no difference. In fact, going with a smaller model might be better for casual use since those tiny, compact drones are just so darn convenient for carrying around.

Where Can I Find Large Drones for Sale?

Large drones with cameras can be found in all sorts of online shops. Amazon is a great place for finding larger enthusiast-grade models. B&H Photo Video, on the other hand, is the go-to place for your professional-grade drone needs. Make sure you check out other shops too, but you’ll typically find the best deals on Amazon and B&H Photo Video.

How Big are Drones?

As mentioned in the introductory paragraph, drones come in all sorts of shapes and, drumroll, sizes. That means they range from miniature, pocket-sized drones that fit into the palm of your hand, all the way to giant military monstrosities weighing in more than 3000 lbs. Typically, though, mainstream drones weight between 1 pound and 5 pounds. It’s a rough estimate – don’t throw a fit just because a drone’s weight doesn’t fit… When it comes to the size of mainstream drones, they vary from pocket-size buggers to mid-tower-pc-size buggers. Anything bigger than that is inching closer to the prosumer territory.

How Much Money Should I Spend on Big Drones for Sale?

Needless to say, this is your own personal choice. It’s all a matter of personal preference, nothing more and nothing else. Well, a matter of personal preference and whether or not you won a business that could use a drone for the sake of process automatization. Either way, it’s all up to you and I can’t really be a part of that decision.
